OUR MISSION AND PROCESS:
Established in honor of Zachary Bar-Illan, who lost his battle with Osteosarcoma in 2009, the foundation aims to raise money for pediatric cancer research and care facilities. Funds are generated through an ongoing series of benefits which feature musical concerts and art auctions. Our conglomerate of artists and musicians rotate Purple Hat duty by offering their art and/or music for these benefits. Each of our concerts raises funds for a specific program that is directly involved with pediatric cancer care.
In addition to garnering and distributing funds, we hope to effect positive change in the world by encouraging people to pursue their dreams, artistic or otherwise. If we all can pursue our dreams instead of conforming to the expectations of those around us, we will be more likely to find ways to overcome humanity's greatest challenges, such as cancer, AIDS,War and famine.

To All Purple Hat Foundation and Musicians On Call Supporters,
I cannot thank all of you who came out to the 3rd Annual Purple Hat Foundation Benefit Concert for Musicians On Call on Saturday January 26, 2013 enough! I am deeply indebted to all of the amazingly talented musicians who donated their time and effort and performed in truly inspired fashion. Without you, none of this would have been possible. And to all of you who attended the benefit, I am eternally grateful for your love, dedication and generosity on such a wonderful day. Every one of you brought your own special energy to make it a day full of bright light. And, of course, a huge thank you to An Beal Bocht, Tony, Pat and the whole crew for giving us the perfect venue for the event. And a big thank you to The Riverdale Press for the tremendous support.
We are dropping a check off at Musicians On Call for $1600 today. Our total raised was $2550, with $950 in expenses for amps and drum kit rental and printing, netting the amount mentioned above. Again, this is all from your generosity.
For me, you all touch my heart beyond words, knowing that the day was a celebration and dedication to the life of my late son Zachary.

THE PURPLE HAT FUND
Ultimately we aim to establish The Purple Hat Fund which will provide financial support for families with children who have been diagnosed with cancer. These funds serve to enable families to spend time together when comfort and care are needed most. We hope to alleviate the pressures of employment and income concerns, allowing parents to focus on caring for their sick child. And we look to enhance the quality and effectiveness of medical care by ensuring that the comfort of stress free parental presence is always an integral part of the process.
FUNDS DISTRIBUTION
Funds that we raise through our concert/art auction series will be made available to families with a family member who has been diagnosed with cancer through The Purple Hat Fund.

THE ZACHARY AARON BAR-ILLAN (ZAB) GUITAR INSTRUCTION SCHOLARSHIP
The Foundation is pleased to announce that it will be offering 2 guitar instruction scholarships for the September 2011 school year. We are currently accepting applications for students age 7 - 17 in the Riverdale, NY area. The course will be an hour of instruction weekly through the school year at The Guitar Academy - A Guitar instruction school founded by our director Jeremy Bar-Illan.

PURPLE HAT FOUNDATION BENEFIT CONCERT FOR PEACE -JERUSALEM 2013
This is the beginning of an effort to realize a goal to bring people together for a common cause - our children - at a place that offers all of us profound inspiration. Purple Hat Foundation's process is driven by a vision of a unified voice of Christians, Jews, Muslims, and every cultural and religious background to demonstrate how, together we can create tremendous positive change. I invite all of you to join this group and encourage others to do the same.
We will present an outdoor concert at an historical location in Jerusalem and invite artists and musicians from around the world to participate. We will provide more information here as we secure dates and place. We will also announce names of artists and musicians who will be participating. And we ask every one out there to contact us if you are interested in performing or donating art.
The foundation's mission is to provide financial assistance to families with children diagnosed with cancer. And this effort is part of our vision of a future without war or famine, and with a cure for cancer and AIDS.

Thank you everyone for your tremendous and overwhelming support. Our benefit was a huge success because of you. We achieved our initial goal of raising funds for IRS and legal fees related to securing 501c3 status (non-profit status with IRS) and will be starting our application process this week. And we have enough remaining to establish our charitable trust, The Purple Hat Fund. Keep an eye on the Purple Hat Foundation Facebook page and website, http://purplehatfoundation.org/, for information on our progress.
We raised over $2300 and will let you know the final tally when we close on a couple last minute art sales!
Thank you to all of the amazing musicians who donated their time to our cause and thank you to the stupendous artists who donated their work. And thank you to all of you Purple Hat Foundation supporters who came to our music and art festival.
We will be releasing a compilation CD recorded live at the benefit with songs from every band. And we hope to be releasing a DVD of the whole event as well.
Personally, I am touched in ways that words cannot describe. The outpouring of love was priceless. And the Beal Bocht spirit was powerful!
